Illustrated contrast between an overflowing basket of chips with queso and a small bowl of lettuce with salsa

The Highest- and Lowest-Calorie Items at Chipotle, Ranked

The short answer

Two things the data makes clear. First: the high end of the menu belongs entirely to chips — the 12 highest-calorie entries in the dataset are all chips-and-dip combos, topping out at 1,310 calories for a large chili lime chips and queso blanco combo. Second: the low end belongs to greens and salsa — romaine lettuce lists 5 calories, and nothing edible with a real serving goes lower. Between the two ends sits a roughly 260-fold calorie gap, and most of it is decided before the entrée is even built.

The chips monopoly at the top

The ten highest-calorie entries, every one a chips combo:

RankItemServingCalories
1Large Chili Lime Chips & Queso Blanco1 large combo1,310
2Large Chili Lime Chips & Guacamole1 large combo1,290
3Large Chips & Large Queso Blanco1 large combo1,290
4Large Chips & Large Guacamole1 large combo1,270
5Large Chili Lime Chips1 large order830
6Chips Large6 oz810
7Chili Lime Chips & Queso Blanco1 combo790
8Chili Lime Chips & Guacamole1 combo780
9Chips & Queso Blanco1 combo780
10Chips & Guacamole1 combo770

No burrito, bowl, or protein cracks the top ten. The “side” outranks the meal — a large chips-and-queso combo carries more calories than most full entrées on the menu. (Dataset observations, not recommendations.)

Without the combos

Strip out the combo servings and the ranking changes shape — but chips still lead. The highest single-serving items:

ItemServingCalories
Chips Large6 oz810
Chili Lime Chips1 regular order550
Chips4 oz540
Queso Blanco Large8 oz480
Guacamole Large8 oz460
Large sugary drinks (lemonade, Mountain Dew, root beer, Fanta…)32 fl oz430–440

Two details worth noticing. A regular 4 oz chips order (540 cal) already out-calories a burrito tortilla (320 cal) — the vehicle people blame for burrito calories is lighter than the side they add without thinking. And a large sugary drink (430–440 cal) costs more calories than the chicken in a bowl (180 cal). The drink is doing more work on the total than the protein is.

The bottom of the table

The lowest-calorie real foods in the dataset:

ItemServingCalories
Romaine Lettuce1 oz5
Kids Romaine Lettuce1 oz5
Supergreens Salad Mix3 oz15
Tomatillo-Green Chili Salsa2 fl oz15
Kids Fresh Tomato Salsa2 oz15
Kids Tomatillo-Green Chili Salsa2 fl oz15

Greens and salsa: the entire bottom of the menu. A 15-calorie salsa serving against a 1,310-calorie chips combo is the full width of the menu in two numbers.

What we excluded, and why

A ranking this wide needs honest boundaries, so here are the entries we left out of the tables above:

  • “No Rice,” “No Beans,” and similar zero-serving placeholders list 0 calories — they’re calculator options, not food, and ranking them would be ranking nothing.
  • Zero-calorie diet sodas would trivially top any “lowest calorie” list. They’re drinks, not food, and everyone already knows they’re zero calories — including them would bury the actual finding, which is how low the real foods go.

Neither is hidden: both appear in the site’s full nutrition table. They just don’t belong in a ranking of foods.

The fine print

Three things worth knowing before using this ranking:

  1. Combos are the unit. The top of this ranking is dominated by combo servings because combos bundle multiple items. That’s not a trick — it’s the point: ordering the bundle is the decision that moves the number.
  2. This ranks one thing. Calories say nothing about protein, sodium, fiber, or fullness. The large chips combo at the top of this table and the lettuce at the bottom are barely the same category of decision.
  3. Estimates, not measurements. Restaurant portions vary; these are consistent applications of official serving values, not a measurement of the basket in front of you. For allergies or medical needs, check Chipotle’s official allergen information directly.

Where these numbers come from

Every figure above comes from this site’s independently maintained nutrition dataset — 160 active records, built from Chipotle’s official U.S. nutrition publications (March 2025 PDF, August 2026 review, September 2026 sync). No values estimated, no servings scaled. Full sourcing and methods: Methodology & Data Sources.
